
What is Peyronie’s disease?
Peyronie’s disease is named after French surgeon François Gigot de la Peyronie, who first described the condition in 1742. The disease is characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis that causes curved, painful erections.
A slight bend or curve in the penis is normal. Many men are born with a naturally occurring arch referred to in medical literature as a congenital curvature. By natures design this is usually noticeable as soon as young men become mature, and begin to have a sex life.
